New Family Members

This summer a ferrel cat hung out around our property. This fall she had a litter of kittens out in the woods. I saw several of them, but two came up to the house and adopted us. There was a grey tiger colored male and an orange female. Once we fed them, that was it, they weren't going back into the woods. The mother, who would never come into the open or approach us, even came up on the porch trying to cajole them back, no dice. Now they are getting fat and sassy. They stay in the garage but we bring them into the house a lot when we are at home, especially in the evening. There is a bad habbit of bitting, especially toes. I don't know if this is the ferrel part of them coming out, but I don't expect to have a mouse problem in the garage this winter! We haven't had a cat in a long time. One high tech toy we play with together is a laser pointer. Instead of string I have them chase the red dot around the living room, even up the walls. Even on each other. It's funny because they don't like to have the dot on themselves at all, I can get the male to whirl in circles trying to get it off his back paw. It's getting time for their second trip to the vet, and eventualy they will be old enough to be fixed. Although J is alergic to a lot of things she doesn't seem to mind the cats in the house yet. Yesterday the kittens did the oddest thing, I was out in the yard with them and they were playing in a mud puddle. I've never seen cats walk into standing water on purpose before. Last night J asked me what I thought the cats were seeing as they sat and stared at us. "a couple of really big cats" was my guess.

More Rain

Darn, brother came up for the weekend, stayed Saturday at my dad's. We were to get together Sunday morning for a run. Got a phone call instead, from the road on the way back to the airport. His wife fell ill and he had to cancel his trip. At this point she seems fine, didn't need to go to hospital, but S is taking a few days off to stay with her at home.

Rain

Into every life a little rain must fall. I've got two stressful situations going on now in my life. The first one involves my son. He did some work for a couple, he is a licensed professional, and they aren't happy with it. They are threatening to sue him, and my wife and I as well. I feel the threats are baseless, but am still forced to hire and pay an attorney to defend us. I am particularly angry that they are dragging my wife and I into it, claiming that we were his agents. It is a selfish attempt to skirt the fact that said son has no assets and isn't worth suing on his own.

The second situation is work. After ten years I have been offered a pay plan that I do not find at all attractive. I don't really get any say in it, it is more of a take it or leave it thing. Take it or get a box and grab your stuff and leave. I have a counter proposal that I think will let the company and I survive. I hope they will consider it. It seems lately that in the states you either have to do more work for less money or you don't have a job at all.
